1% Increase in Ontario Minimum Wage in 2021

Depending on the current economic conditions in the country and state, experts believe that the minimum wage increase in Ontario will be around 1%. This increase is determined mainly by the inflation rates in the state. Ontario has one of the most stable economies in Canada during the last year, therefore, there will not be any dramatic increase such as the one that happened in 2017. Considering that no major price rises occurred in the last year and the Ontario consumer price index, there will be around 10 cent increase in the minimum wage in the state. Minimum Wage Exemptions in Ontario in 2021

Since the Canadian government did not make any announcements yet, we cannot provide you detailed information about the future increase. However, just like in the past, all kinds of workers will benefit from the increase. Besides regular workers, three types of workers work for different minimum wages. These are;

  • Students who are under 18 years old and work less than 28 hours weekly
  • Liquor servers
  • Homeworkers

The above-mentioned individuals receive $13.40, $12.45, and $15.70 minimum wage per hour. Experts believe that the estimated 1% increase in the minimum wage in Ontario will also be valid for them. This will increase their minimum wages to $13.55, $12.55, and $15.85, on average.
